Main activity | The Ground Breaking Ceremony of the Project for the Expansion of Olengoloto Primary School which had its Grant Contract signed in November 2013, was held in Narok County and witnessed by among others, officials from the Embassy of Japan in Kenya. The grant provided school facilities to improve the educational environment for the pupils and teachers. These included construction of 7 classrooms, 8 eco-san toilets, an administration block, renovation of 8 classrooms, installation of 2 water tanks and furniture. Current school facilities are not adequate and too congested. In order to ease the situation, each parent of the school contributed with a few pieces of wood and a little amount of money and built very humble classrooms for the students to at least be covered by shelter to avoid the sun. The ceremony included planting of trees as well as performance of Masai songs and dances by the pupils and youth groups from the local community. There were also speeches from officials who expressed their gratitude to Japan. While giving his remarks, H.E. Mr. Tatsushi congratulated the school for their success in getting the grant and holding a ground breaking ceremony to start the project. He also talked about the steps that led Japan to become a super power and encouraged the pupils to work hard in order to achieve their dreams for a prosperous future of their country. At the end of his remarks, the Ambassador mentioned the prime minister of Japan, Mr. Abe’s speech made in Africa recently that stressed on the government of Japan’s willingness to implement greater and generous assistance in African countries including youth and women empowerment for a brighter future of Africa. Mr. Richard, the head teacher of Olengoloto Primary School mentioned that the County Government had allocated 1 Million Kshs to Olengoloto Primary School as an additional fund to construct a small kitchen for preparation of school lunch for the pupils. |
